Gold Coast Race 1

The Secret Burden Start The Conversation Mdn Hcp

Prize Money: $30,000

WHISKEY WARRIOR (5) comes off a Toowoomba second as favourite and has placed at this distance. Heading the right way on the quick back-up and has more upside than others. JOSEPHINE OF TUFFY (2) has become quite the bridesmaid but is still desperate to break through. Expect her to hunt the front again and be the one they need to reel in when they straighten. FIVE OF US (3) finds the maiden win elusive but is knocking on the door, backing up a narrow Eagle Farm second with another close finish at this track when sent favourite last time. Shoulders a good record here and Larson sticks. Bold showing anticipated. CHANCE DE LUNE (8) is harder to trust as a 17-start maiden without a placing, but suspect the rise in trip is what he's been calling for. DESERT ANGEL (6) was plain last start, though her long-neck second at this venue two back is strong enough to put her in the mix if repeated.

Keeps finding the frame without breaking through, most recently third at Toowoomba when near the top of betting and run down late after racing keenly. One to include.

Comes through two solid soft-track seconds, the latest at this venue when favourite and beaten just over two lengths by Alkebulan after travelling well to the turn. Her Eagle Farm run prior had real merit, closing to within just over half a length of Zweigelt at big odds, and she beat Chance De Lune home there. Brings the clearest winning profile.

Drops back from Saturday company after finishing second last at Eagle Farm, beaten four and a half lengths behind Zweigelt when giving away a big start and only fair late. Third-up fitness and the easier grade help, but the first try at 2230m adds another question to an already mixed case. Place chance.

Worked into the race at Toowoomba last week and finished second, beaten just over two lengths, although he was sent out favourite and could not quite finish it off. Has placed at this distance, but the soft ground is a genuine concern on his record. Holds appeal.

Picked up nicely from a difficult position when fifth at Sunshine Coast last week, beaten eight lengths behind Indamouse, and that closing work points to him getting his chance in this grade. He had earlier finished fifth at Eagle Farm after covering ground and racing keenly. Untested at 2230m, but recent figures give him a live chance.
