Durbanville Race 7

Lucky Fish Fire Strike Class 4 (F & M)

Prize Money: $9,450

OVER MY SHOULDER (2) earns top billing after making a winning debut at Kenilworth, where she firmed in betting, started favourite and beat Winter Blossom by a length in FM MPLTE company. The first look at 1400m is the one qualification, but she gets weight relief and the debut performance gives her the strongest upside. SOUTH OF FRANCE (1) is a major danger after winning an FM Benchmark 82 at Kenilworth, and her three wins plus three placings from six starts at this distance read particularly well with the class drop. PEACE GARLAND (8) brings reliable recent form, having placed over 1600m after a soft-ground win two back, and she is already proven at 1400m. ROSE WOOTT (5) resumes after eight months off the back of a Kenilworth FM Open win, with her 1400m record and top weight making her more of a place-focused threat.

Returns from a two-month let-up after an excellent debut win at Kenilworth, where she firmed into favourite and beat Winter Blossom by a length over 1200m in FM MPLTE grade. The move to 1400m is new territory, but she gets weight relief, draws well and comes from a stable with strong depth. With natural improvement from that first run, she sets the standard and looks the one to beat.

Comments

Resumes after three months off following two below-par runs, the latest a second-last at this track when beaten just over eight lengths and unwanted in the market. She had also been beaten six and a half lengths by Beneath The Clouds at Kenilworth. There is some support in a 1400m record that includes a win and two placings, but she has to return much sharper to threaten beyond a minor placing.

Expected Settling Position: Off Pace

Was sent out favourite at this track last start but could only finish second last, beaten four lengths behind Dream Searcher, with no clear excuse in the run. Her previous third behind Lady Veritas at this venue was more encouraging and she has won at 1400m, so the set-up is not unsuitable. Even so, she must lift well beyond the latest performance to trouble the main chances.

Returns from a lengthy eight-month spell after ending her last campaign with a long-neck win over Beach Verse in FM Open company at Kenilworth. She has won two of only five starts and the winning rider is back aboard, which keeps her in calculations. The top weight and an unplaced record from two goes at 1400m are genuine reservations, so she profiles as a place chance rather than a clear-cut winning play.

Produced her best recent run when fourth at this track last start, beaten two and a half lengths behind Dream Searcher at big odds. Before that she was sixth behind South Of France in an FM Benchmark 82 at Kenilworth, again unwanted in betting. She is proven at 1400m and the class drop helps, but her overall strike rate points to an each-way chance only if the race falls her way.

Back after five weeks since winning by two lengths over 1250m at this track in FM MPLTE grade, beating First Bloom after being near the top of betting. She was consistent before that, including a third to Over My Shoulder at Kenilworth, and receives weight relief this time. The concern is her first attempt around 1400m against deeper opposition, so further improvement is required.

Returns from a two-month freshening after finishing third to Miss Attitude in an FM Benchmark 70 at Kenilworth, beaten two and a half lengths when near the top of betting. She had won her previous start over Juliet Of Verona on soft ground and has missed a place only once in six starts. Weight relief and a solid 1400m record give her a genuine chance to fill a placing again.
