Newcastle Race 5

Dailey Family Funerals Midway Hcp (C1)

Prize Money: $45,000

SLANDER (4) went under narrowly on debut last May and resumed with a gritty on pave win over 1150m at Illawarra Grange. On the up and gets an even better set-up on the home track. Go close. LAWLESS LUCY (2) resumes after running into a couple of handy types in the first prep. Fitted with the two trials and expect to see her a little closer in the run from the rails draw. MERCANTILIST (6) third up for this and can run a much better race after she came out quickly from the wide gate before folding up in the straight to run seventh over 1200m at Illawarra Grange. Anywhere near her best can win this from the right gate. PRINCE DE VEGA (7) tough ask second up when he jumped in trip to finish a plugging fourth over 1413m at Taree. Tongue-tie comes off and place best over this trip.
