Doomben Race 2

Gallopers Sports Club (Bm80)

Prize Money: $85,000

KENMARE BAY (2) arrives off a good win at Rosehill when well backed. Has good form all around this trip without specifically tackling it, though doubt that should worry. Expect him to stalk them into the lane and be too strong late. TARAVIA (7) is a danger, having only been collared on the line by CAPTAIN MAVERICK two weeks ago, who he now meets with a good pull at the weights. Thompson sticks and looks the one they'll need to reel in. CAPTAIN MAVERICK (1) has done little wrong this campaign and silenced his doubters last start when arriving just in time. Bit tougher now up in the weights but he nevertheless he deserves respect. BARAZIN (3) has to turn around that Eagle Farm result, but a pull at the weights gives him a chance. SAMURAI WARRIOR (5) was a sharp improver at the Sunny Coast third-up and looks even better suited stretching to this trip on the short turnaround. Can fill the drum at a nice quote.

Comments

Brought strong recent form to Eagle Farm and converted as favourite, winning by a long neck from Taravia after beginning slowly and still finishing strongly. He had been beaten a nose by Demarcay at Gold Coast the start prior when held up approaching the 400m, so the form has substance. Top weight is the query, but he's in good touch and rates a genuine threat again.

Expected Settling Position: Midfield

Made it two strong Rosehill 2400m efforts in a row, following a second to Appeared with a win over Golden Century despite being held up, racing tight and copping interference near the 300m. Only has to hold his form to prove very tough to beat.

Was no threat when fifth behind Captain Maverick at Eagle Farm, beaten four and a half lengths after being well back, with only a bump on jumping as minor context. The run prior was better, finishing third in a BM85 at this track over 2020m and making good ground late. Safely held behind key rivals last start, so place claims look the right mark.

Comes back on a one-week turnaround after a sound fourth in the Listed Queensland Cup at Eagle Farm, beaten just over two lengths at long odds in Open grade. That is a useful class reference for a BM80, especially with the 2kg claim, but her previous Toowoomba run was plain and she is unplaced from three starts at this track. This track record is the query, but she has minor-money claims.

Lifted sharply at Sunshine Coast last start, running second in a BM70 when beaten just under a length at long odds after being forced wide near the 400m. He drops from 59kg carried there to 54.5kg and is race fit on the quick back-up, which helps offset the rise into BM80 grade. Gets weight relief, though the BM80 rise makes this tougher.

Went very close at Eagle Farm last start, finishing second to Captain Maverick and beaten a long neck on soft ground while again respected in betting. The Gold Coast fifth two back was below his best, but his broader profile is strong, with two wins and a placing from four starts at this distance and Ben Thompson back aboard. Gets Thompson back aboard and is a real danger.
