Sunshine Coast Race 1

Rafter Myers Mdn Plate

Prize Money: $30,000

BETTER BE DONE (2) gets the clearest winning case after already placing in Open grade at Eagle Farm on debut, where she was beaten just under 2L after travelling well and finishing into the money. Her Doomben run last week was below that level, but it came in Saturday company and she tackles easier company now with Thompson taking over. DIP WITH THE HIP (3) also comes through Open grade and has the chance to improve second-up after leading on heavy ground at Eagle Farm before fading. The inside draw gives her every opportunity to show more. SWIM UP BAR (1) is the most interesting debutant and strips fitter for a Deagon trial. Lerena's booking adds another layer. PASITA (6) is another first starter off a Deagon trial, and while the race evidence is thin, her trial margin was not wide and she profiles as a sensible inclusion for the minor end of the main chances. KWINANA SPIRIT (4) is a likely improver and looks best of the rest.

Comments

Makes his debut with first-time blinkers applied, which gives the stable a clear gear angle to work with. He trialled at Deagon two weeks ago and was a $60,000 yearling purchase, while Brandon Lerena adds senior riding strength. Genuine place chance if he handles race pressure.

Produced the best exposed run in this field when second on debut in Open grade at Eagle Farm, beaten just under two lengths after travelling well and picking up nicely. She was safely held in Saturday company at Doomben last start, beaten just over nine lengths after settling back and racing keenly near the 400m. Quick back-up is the query, but this is her race to win.

Expected Settling Position: Midfield

Led on debut in an Open at Eagle Farm on heavy ground and was still in control on the turn before being claimed and dropping out to finish last, beaten just under eight lengths. There was no clear excuse and she was at long odds, so improvement is required. Has to finish off better, but place claims are fair.

Was well beaten on debut in an Open at Doomben last week, finishing last and beaten just under ten lengths after settling back and making no impression. The stewards noted she was bumped at the start and on heels near the home turn, so there is some excuse, and she drops to a Mdn. Likely improver that can sneak a minor spot.

Was unwanted in the market on debut in an Open at Eagle Farm and finished last, beaten a long way after beginning awkwardly and making no impression from the rear. She has trialled at Gold Coast Poly since, which at least gives the stable a chance to sharpen her up, and the drop to a Mdn is kinder. Mdn grade helps, but she has plenty to find.

Comments

Starts her career for the Belinda Mair stable after trialling at Deagon two weeks ago, finishing within a modest margin over 650m. She is by Pariah and has a half sibling in Tarong who won twice, so there is some sprinting background to work with. Limited exposed push, though the draw and light profile keep her in the place mix.
