Greyville Race 4

Tote For The Win Mr 95 Open Hcp (3-Year-Olds)

Prize Money: $11,598

COAST OF THE SUN (5) sets the standard after closing last campaign with wins at this track and Scottsville, including a BM82 success as short-odds favourite. His perfect two-from-two record at 1400m gives him the strongest race profile. THE SWAN SONG (6) has matched that winning momentum, scoring at his past two and proving himself at this venue, with the only query being the first try around 1400m. PERIWINKLE (7) is lightly raced and progressive, turning a debut third at this venue into a two-and-a-half-length Scottsville win next time. WILD AND FREE (1) won on debut at generous odds and has scope to improve second-up, although this is a deeper test of his early promise.

Won on debut at Scottsville, beating Le Concierge by just over a length at generous odds, and now gets the chance to build on that immediately second-up. The market did not have him marked as an obvious first-starter, so there was merit in the way he delivered. From barrier one, he should get every chance to conserve energy, and while this is a stronger assignment, he profiles as a genuine place hope with upside.

Returns from a three-month spell after ending last campaign fifth in a 2yo MPLTE over 1000m at Scottsville, beaten three and a half lengths at big odds. His previous run was also a sixth at long odds on the Greyville Aw, and he remains unplaced from six starts. The 1400m is new territory, so a sharp turnaround is required before he becomes a serious player.

Has been honest without winning, finishing third at this venue last start in an MPLATE over 1600m, beaten just over a length, after filling the same spot on the Greyville Aw. Blinkers go on and the apprentice claim is another positive, while he has already placed at around this distance. The concern is that he remains a maiden after four starts, so he must turn consistency into something sharper.

Was last at this venue in an Open over 1200m last start, beaten over 16 lengths after easing in an open market, and that margin is hard to overlook. His previous Scottsville second behind Omkhulu Boss was much better, and the return of a winning rider plus a genuine weight drop are positives. Even so, the first try around 1400m and the last-start failure leave him with plenty to prove.

Returns from a three-month spell with the best overall profile, having ended last campaign by winning a Benchmark 82 at Scottsville from Klein Karoo as a short odds-on favourite. That followed a 2yo MPLTE win at this track over 1400m, and his two-from-two record at the distance is a major anchor. The 60kg is the one query, but his form, consistency and proven trip credentials make him the horse to beat.

Returns off a five-week let-up in winning form after taking a Benchmark 70 at this venue over 1200m by a neck as favourite. He had scored by just over two lengths on the Greyville Aw the start prior, so the current campaign has real substance. The 1400m is untried, but weight relief from the latest win helps, and his unbeaten record from his past two starts keeps him right in the winning mix.

Returns off a five-week let-up after improving sharply from a debut third at this venue to win an FM MPLTE at Scottsville by two and a half lengths. That second run showed clear racecraft improvement, and she remains unbeaten outside her first-start placing. The apprentice claim helps and she is still open to more improvement third-up, though she looks a place-focused hope against the top two.

Returns from a three-month spell after a dominant 2yo MPLTE win at Scottsville, beating Deonarie by just under four lengths when crunched into a short odds-on quote. He had also been second to Benny And Paul at the same venue before that, so the last campaign had consistency. Barrier eight makes the return a little awkward, but his perfect place record keeps him in the minor-money conversation.
