Durbanville Race 2

Rcs Two Year Old Sale 24 October Mdn Plate (F & M)

Prize Money: $8,749

CAPTAIN'S LASS (4) sets the standard after resuming as a heavily backed odds-on favourite when fourth over 1000m at this track. She had earlier run second at Kenilworth, beaten just under two lengths after firming in betting, and while 1250m is new territory, her exposed form and market respect make her the horse to beat. SAUTERELLE (1) is the immediate danger after debuting with a fourth at this venue, beaten just over two lengths despite being unwanted in the market, and she draws to get every chance second-up. ARCTIC FLOW (6) was behind SAUTERELLE in that same race, finishing eighth and beaten four and a half lengths, but has scope to come on from that first outing and gets a 2.5kg claim. PRINCESS SOFIA (8) resumes from a five-month break with a mixed two-run profile; her debut third at Kenilworth reads well enough, though she has to leave behind the plain second-last finish that ended her last campaign.

Made a sound debut at this track when fourth in a FM MPLTE, beaten just over two lengths behind Captain's Elect after starting unwanted in the market. That run rated strongly for this field and she had Arctic Flow behind her on the same line. The inside draw and Richard Fourie booking add to the case, and natural second-up improvement gives her a solid winning profile.

Returns from a two-month freshening after finishing ninth over 1000m at this track, beaten just over six lengths as a big-odds runner behind Stealth. Her debut seventh at Kenilworth was also well held, beaten seven and a half lengths after being unwanted in the market. The apprentice claim and third-up set-up help, but she has to find a sharper finish.

Resumes after a three-month break having ended her last campaign with a tenth at Kenilworth, beaten over 13 lengths when unwanted in the market. Her previous run at this track was sixth, beaten just over nine lengths, after sitting near the top of an open market. She is yet to place in three tries around 1250m, so others bring stronger recent evidence.

Resumed with a fourth over 1000m at this track, beaten four and a half lengths by Nadia Nerina after being heavily backed into odds-on favouritism. The market respect was no surprise given she had been second at Kenilworth two runs ago, beaten just under two lengths after firming. She tackles 1250m for the first time, but her form depth and handy racing pattern make her the one to beat.

Returns from a two-month freshening after finishing last on debut at this track, beaten seven and a half lengths behind One Step at big odds. That bare result leaves her with ground to make up, but she is lightly raced and the profile allows some improvement at start two. A softer assessment is warranted, though a step forward can put her in the minor-money mix.

Was safely held on debut at this track when eighth in a FM MPLTE, beaten four and a half lengths by Captain's Elect after being unwanted in the market. Sauterelle had her measure there, so she has form to reverse, but the margin was not out of reach for a newcomer. A 2.5kg claim and the benefit of race experience keep her among the better winning hopes.

Has been beaten a long way in both starts, most recently 11th at this track in a FM MPLTE, beaten over 12 lengths by Georgie Girl despite attracting some support at odds. Her debut at Kenilworth was even further off the mark, finishing eighth and beaten over 17 lengths. Race fitness third-up is a plus, but her form has to rise substantially.

Resumes after a five-month break following a second-last finish at Kenilworth, where she was beaten over 18 lengths after easing near the top of an open market. The better reference is her debut third at Kenilworth, beaten two lengths at generous odds on good ground. If she returns closer to that first-run level, she is a genuine place prospect.

Debuts for Lucinda Woodruff and has to overcome a wide barrier at her first race appearance. The stable's debut record is modest at 5% wins and 18% places from the supplied sample, though the trainer-sire combination is more respectable. With no exposed race form, she looks a watching brief unless the market gives a clear lead.
